AMBITIONS FOR LIFE

The ambitions we have discussed the past 5 weeks are no longer ambitions for a single year. They are the direction I want my life to take for as long as the Lord gives me breath. I don’t want temporary resolutions that fade with the calendar; I want lasting transformation that deepens with time. At the heart of it all is a simple desire: to draw closer to Jesus and allow Him to shape every part of who I am.

I want my faith to grow not just in moments when life is easy, but especially when it is uncertain. Faith is not something I can force into existence through determination or willpower. “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17) It grows as I return again and again to the voice of Jesus, listening to His Word and allowing His truth to settle into my heart. As my faith increases, so does my trust. I begin to rest instead of striving. I learn that peace is not found in control, but in confidence that He is already holding what concerns me.

As my trust in Him deepens, I want my prayer life to deepen as well. Prayer is more than words spoken in crisis; it is a continual conversation, a steady awareness of His presence. “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” (Colossians 4:2) I don’t want to turn to Him only when I am anxious, afraid, or overwhelmed. I want to walk with Him throughout the day, sharing gratitude, asking for wisdom, and simply enjoying His nearness. The outcome I long for is not just answered prayers, but a closer relationship: one where I am increasingly aware that I am never walking alone.

From that growing faith and ongoing prayer flows love. I want to love more, not superficially, not conditionally, but genuinely and generously. “That your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment.” (Philippians 1:9) The love I seek is not something I manufacture; it is something Jesus forms in me as I spend time with Him. As He fills my heart, I become more patient, more understanding, and more willing to see others through His eyes. The outcome is a life that reflects His compassion, where kindness becomes instinctive and grace becomes natural.

Love inevitably leads to forgiveness. I want to forgive more freely and more fully, remembering how much I have been forgiven. “Forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32) Forgiveness is releasing the weight of resentment and allowing grace to do its healing work. The result is freedom from bitterness and freedom from carrying burdens I was never meant to hold.

Woven through all of this is gratitude. I want thankfulness to become the rhythm of my life. “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18) When I pause to recognize how faithfully Jesus loves, provides, and walks beside me, gratitude rises naturally. It steadies my heart in difficult seasons and multiplies joy in good ones. The outcome is worship, not just in song or prayer, but in the posture of my heart and the way I live each day.

These are not isolated ambitions; they are deeply connected. Faith leads me to prayer. Prayer fills me with love. Love opens the door to forgiveness. Forgiveness frees my heart. Gratitude anchors it all. Together, they shape a life that continually turns toward Jesus rather than drifting away.

So my prayer is not for a single year, but for the rest of my life:

that my faith would keep growing,

that my prayers would become more natural than worry,

that my love would widen and deepen,

that forgiveness would come more quickly,

and that gratitude would rise more readily.

Reflection:

Where is Jesus inviting me to trust Him more deeply right now?

Do I turn to Him only in urgency, or do I walk with Him daily?

Who might need to receive more love or forgiveness from me?

What blessings have I overlooked that could turn into gratitude today?

Lord, shape these not as passing intentions but as lifelong directions. Draw me closer to You, steady my faith, deepen my prayer life, fill me with love, teach me forgiveness, and root my heart in gratitude. Let my life quietly reflect Your presence more and more each day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
