MY NEW JOB: GIVING MY ALL TO JESUS (Friday)

John 12:3
Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
Mary had been waiting for a long time. to show Jesus how much she loved Him. The time finally came. Mary took the oil and did what she knew to do: she anointed the feet of the One she knew was the Messiah. In that instant, Mary felt purpose and fulfillment as she worshipped her Savior personally with all her heart.
Mary faced ridicule by Judas, who said to her, “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” (v. 5). Judas knew how much the oil was worth monetarily. In fact, he was hoping to have the oil, so he (Judas) could control its use. That’s what greedy people do—they impose their own desires on other people’s lives.
Jesus rebuked His disciple stating, “Leave her alone. It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial” (v. 7). This was Jesus acknowledging God’s timing in Mary’s life. Mary knew she was supposed to do something special with the oil; she just didn’t know what. Mary knew there was a time to use the oil; she just didn’t know when, until now.
THING ABOUT THESE THINGS: I believe that I need to give more of myself to Jesus. He wants to change my life, so as I give my life to Him, He can use it to help others. Mary did
this with her life…she showed this by giving away her most expensive possession (which equaled her life’s savings) to Jesus in an act of worship.
What have I been saving that God wants me to give to Him? I will ask God how He will give me a new job by being a giver and not at taker, worshiping Him wholeheartedly and not half-heartedly, loving Him unconditionally and not conditionally.
My new job description is defined by Jesus; it doesn’t require any effort by me except total surrender. Through this new job, I will become a better listener by listening to His voice, a better speaker by allowing the Holy Spirit to speak through me, and a better helper by using His spiritual gifts to benefit the lives of others.
Lord, through You I can do all things You want me to do. Blessed me today with the new job of giving my all to You! Amen.
May you be blessed,
