MY NEW JOB: SEEING JESUS (Tuesday)

Luke 19:1-10

Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short, he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Sometimes I think I’m a little like Zacchaeus. I too long to see Jesus. I also run ahead and climb to high places just so I can get a glimpse of Him.

Jesus knew what He was going to do that day and who He was going to see. He wasn’t surprised to see Zacchaeus; in fact, Jesus was looking for Zacchaeus and knew exactly where he would be.

All the people watched in amazement and wondered why Jesus would dine with a notorious sinner. Jesus had a higher purpose and proclaimed to all present, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.”

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS: I learn today that sons can also stray from their Heavenly Father. I know, because I once was lost. Jesus, in His great compassion, came to seek and save me. He wasn’t looking for me because He needed someone to serve Him; He came to find me because I needed help.

I find that those who are lost need the most help. These are the ones I should be dining with, so I can tell them that Jesus is looking for them. When they realize they want to see Jesus, they too will run and to get His attention.

Lord, You changed my heart. Instead of being lost, I am now found. Instead of being a taker, I want to be a giver. Help me to give my time to others by dining with them and telling them Jesus wants to come into their heart today.

May you be blessed,
