DAY 18: SIMEON’S SONG: My Eyes Have Seen Your Salvation

Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as You have promised, You may now dismiss Your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.” Luke 2:25–35

Simeon’s life was marked by waiting. Scripture describes him as righteous and devout, a man whose

heart was anchored in the promises of God. The Holy Spirit had revealed to him a remarkable assurance: that he would not die before seeing the Messiah. Each day, Simeon went to the temple, watching, hoping and trusting.

Then one extraordinary day, led by the Spirit, he entered the temple courts just as Mary and Joseph arrived with the infant Jesus. The long wait was over. Holding the Christ child in his arms, Simeon’s soul overflowed with peace: “My eyes have seen Your salvation.”

What Simeon saw was more than a baby; he saw the fulfillment of God’s promise to the world. Salvation was granted through Jesus Christ.  Jesus would be the light to the nations, revealing God’s glory to all people, Jew and Gentile alike.

Simeon’s song reminds me that God always keeps His word. His timing may test my patience, but His promises never fail. True peace comes when each of us, like Simeon, see Jesus as the fulfillment of everything we’ve been waiting for.

Advent is a season of waiting, but it’s also a time of revelation. Simeon teaches us to wait with faith, expectantly and obediently, trusting that God will always keep His promises.

Reflect:

  • How am I waiting on God right now: with worry or with trust?

  • Where have I already seen glimpses of His salvation at work in my life?

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness that never fails. Teach me to wait with patience and hope, believing that Your promises are true. May my heart recognize Your salvation in every moment of my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
