DAY 23: THE WORD BECAME FLESH: God Dwelling Among Us
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him. Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1–5, 9–14
John’s Gospel opens not with a manger scene, but with eternity. Before Bethlehem, before creation itself, the Word already was. The child born in a stable was the eternal Son of God, through whom all things were made.
And then, in the greatest mystery of love, the Word became flesh. God did not send an angel or a message: He came Himself. The Creator entered His creation, not in power or splendor, but in humility and vulnerability. The infinite became intimate.
John tells us that Jesus came to bring light and life to all people. Though the world did not recognize Him, those who did receive Him were given a new identity: they would be called children of God. His coming is not only a historical event but a personal invitation: to know Him, to believe in Him, and to live as those reborn through His grace.
In Christ, God’s glory is no longer hidden. It dwells among us, full of grace and truth. The Word became flesh so that we might know the heart of the Father.
Christmas is not only about remembering that Christ came but realizing that He dwells among us still.
Reflect:
Do I truly recognize the presence of Christ in my life each day?
How can I reflect His grace and truth to others this season?
Lord, You are the Word made flesh, the light of the world, and the glory of the Father. Thank You for dwelling among us and revealing God’s heart to humanity. Fill me with Your grace and truth, that I may live as a child of God and reflect Your light to others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
