Wednesday: GOD DOESN'T FORGET

Lord, I’m only human. I constantly need reminders to do the things I promise. Please help me remember the promises You have given to me.

1 Chronicles 16:15-22 (also Psalm 105:8-15)

He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations, the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac. He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant: “To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit.” When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it, they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. He allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings: “Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.” I’m sure glad God never forgets His promises because I’m very forgetful. God remembers His covenant with Abraham, and then again with Isaac; He also reminded Jacob of the covenant. In His covenant, God pledged to give the nation of Israel the land of Canaan. God watched over and protected Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, even to the point of saving Jacob’s family from starvation by leading them to the land of Egypt. God also stated in Genesis 15:13 that after Abraham’s descendants had been afflicted for 400 years (in Egypt), He would give them the land of Canaan. THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS: How great it must be to have a covenant with God! There were some stipulations: God called Abraham to walk before Him and be blameless (Genesis 17:1). Does God still make covenants today? I enter into covenants more often than I think. A marriage vow, for example, is a covenant between a husband, a wife, and God. Some parents have their children dedicated, vowing before God to raise them in a Christian home. Humans have a hard time keeping their covenants, unfortunately. The Israelites broke their covenant to be faithful to God; yet I should not quit trying once a covenant I have made is broken. Man’s biggest hindrance to keeping covenants is consistency in maintaining his focus on God. When I think of the times in my life when I’ve strayed from the path the Lord provided, it was because I forgot my commitments. Staying consistent in my relationship with the Lord is the key to keeping all the vows I’ve made to Him and everybody else.

Lord, thank You for always preserving Your promises to me and never giving up on me, even though I’ve let You down many times. Praise the Name of the everlasting Lord!

May you be blessed,
