PRACTICE THESE THINGS

PRACTICE THESE THINGS, and the God of Peace Will Be With You

“What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:9

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances… May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely… He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16, 23-24

Thinking was never meant to stop at reflection. It was always meant to lead me into practice. What I have learned, received, heard, and seen is meant to be practiced. Grace received but not practiced will not transform me. But grace lived out creates space for the God of peace to work in my heart.

What I practice shapes me. What I imitate forms me. And who I follow determines where my life finds rest. Scripture gives me simple, faithful rhythms: Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. Give thanks in all circumstances.

These are not emotional commands; they are practiced disciplines. I do not rejoice because life is easy. I rejoice because God is present. I pray because I am dependent. I give thanks because God is faithful.

And then comes the promise, not that I will do this perfectly, but that God Himself is at work in me. The God of peace sanctifies me. He guards me. He keeps me. He finishes what He begins.

I cannot create Peace through effort.  Peace is a Person who walks with me as I obey. Jesus is my ultimate example; I am invited to imitate Him, not through striving, but through faithful practice.

Practice does not mean perfection. It means daily surrender. It means practicing today.  Practicing tomorrow.  Practicing the day after that, until I see Jesus.

So today, I practice what I have learned. I imitate what I have seen in Jesus. I rejoice, I pray, I give thanks. And as I do, the God of peace is with me.

Reflection Questions

  1. What practices is God calling me to live out more consistently?

  2. How have rejoicing, praying, or gratitude drawn me closer to God’s peace?

  3. Where do I need to trust that God is the One completing His work in me?

Lord, thank You for not only teaching me truth and grace, but walking with me as I live it out. Help me to practice what I have learned and to imitate You in my daily life. Teach me to rejoice, to pray, and to give thanks in every season. Thank You that You are the God of peace, and that You are faithful to complete the work You have begun in me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
