Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Through Him I am saved, and I am thankful to Him for the gift of eternal life.
Isaiah 9:6-7
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
It’s hard to comprehend eternity. I have a vague grasp of an eternal future, but to think about the distant past is another story. This revelation given to the prophet Isaiah 700 years before the birth of Christ states that God had revealed His plan long before Jesus was sent to earth.
The prophet describes the marvelous gift. The gift of this Child was given to us. He was to be born as a baby, so we would be able to relate to His humanity. He was given by God. The government will be on His shoulders, showing His dominion and rule over all the earth.
His names reflect His Deity and the Trinity: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His purpose will be to establish His Kingdom and uphold it with justice and righteousness forever.
THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS: I can’t help imagining the joy in Isaiah’s heart when God revealed these things to him. Isaiah lived during a time when the earthly kingdoms of Israel and Judah were divided.
I recognize that much of the world is divided in many ways. It gives me hope that God plans and already knows the future before it happens. He is still leading His Kingdom as the Prince of Peace. His Kingdom can truly be called great; all our earthly governments will pass away into the history books.
While earthly rulers might believe their authority is absolute, God’s prophecies will triumph over all. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. True justice and righteousness come from heaven, and I only need to look to Jesus to know this in my heart.
Lord, please bless me today as I look to Jesus as God’s Only Son, who was given for me for Your glory. I thank You for preparing for this day and for allowing me to know and believe this promise which was fulfilled when Jesus was born on this earth. Thank You, God!
May you be blessed,
