WEDNESDAY: DO YOU KNOW WHO THIS IS?

Lord, during this season, I celebrate the birth of Jesus on earth. I pray the Light of Your Son will brighten my heart and remind me I am Your child!

John 1:9-13

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

It is amazing that the God of all creation sent His one and only Son into the world, and the world did not recognize Him as God. There was a glorious star shining in the sky, a sky full of angels, and travelers from afar showering Him with gifts, yet most of the world missed it.

But not everyone. Joseph and Mary knew who He was. The shepherds were told by the angels, and the Magi learned from the prophecy. Even Herod knew who the baby was!

Most importantly, God knew. Jesus knew. The Holy Spirit knew. And now, thanks to the Bible and faith, I know! The event was not just about a baby’s birth, though; He was the True Light that gives Light to everyone, and He was coming into the world.

This Scripture teaches that if I receive Him as God’s Son and believe in His Name, I have the right to become a child of God.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS: Many people fight for their rights in this world. Today I learned about an eternal right I have. This right was not created by the government—it was given by the Creator. I have the right to become a child of God.

How awesome is that! If I recognize God sent His Son, the True Light that gives Light to everyone, receive Him as God’s Son, and believe in His Name through faith, then I have the right to be His child.

I am so thankful to the Lord for this God-given right. A gift even more precious than my right is His gift to me: His Son, Jesus. If God had not shared His Son with me, I would still be lost and hopeless in my rebellion against Him. That is how people feel who do not know Jesus. They think they must fight to earn their rights, while their most prized, eternal right is available to them through repentance and faith.

Lord, unlike the people in Jesus’ day, please help me recognize Your Son and His daily work in my life. He is the One who brightens my day and reminds me whose I am: I am Your child!

May you be blessed,
