TUESDAY: TESTIFYING TO THE LIGHT

Lord, thank You for sending Your Son to be the Light for all the world to see!
John 1:6-8
There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
The man sent from God whose name was John was John the Baptist. The prophet Isaiah spoke of John the Baptist in Isaiah 40:3: A voice of one calling in the wilderness, “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”
John the Baptist was a relative of Jesus and born six months before Him. His story is so important to the gospel message that Luke details the story of his birth in his Gospel, the book of Luke.
God states His purpose for John the Baptist: He came as a witness to testify concerning the Light, so that through Him all might believe. A witness in a courtroom testifies to reveal the truth; John the Baptist came as a witness to prepare people’s hearts for Jesus before Jesus started His ministry. He did so with a simple message, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS: Jesus’ message echoed the message of John the Baptist at the onset of Jesus’ ministry. When I listen and respond to the Holy Spirit, the same message reflects the Light of Jesus into my heart.
Just as John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus, I am called to tell others about Jesus’ and His second coming. Jesus said in Matthew 11:11, Whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John the Baptist.
If I see the Light, then I am a witness to the Light. I dare not take for granted that everyone sees the Light. Some do not see the Light; it’s a fact. For others the Light appears less intense. Sadly, some will celebrate Christmas who have not seen the Light at all.
Lord, I pray for sensitivity to hear Your Word and see Your Light today with brightness and intensity. I pray, during this Christmas season, others will see Your Light shining in me!
May you be blessed,
