FRIDAY: God Is My Home

Lord, through all the generations you have been our home! Before the mountains were created, before you made the earth and the world, you are God, without beginning or end. Psalm 90:1

Usually when I read this verse my attention is drawn to the second part, to the reminder of the power and nature of our eternal God. But today when I read it, I found myself caught up in what the first sentence is saying: “You have been our home.” We sing about heaven being our future home, but this verse says that God Himself is our home.

I have thought about God as Creator, Healer, Provider, Protector, Refuge, Savior, Father, and so much more. But I never realized before that He is my home. He is that place where our hearts are at peace, and we feel loved and safe.

I have a son who doesn’t spend much time in our physical home, but whenever we have to be apart, he longs for home like a thirsty man longs for water. He longs for how he feels here. In the same way, our spirits long for home. No wonder God’s presence in our lives brings such comfort and peace. We’re home.

May you find your home in the One who created the heavens and the earth and made you to be with Him.

May you be blessed,

Cindy Larscheid
