FRIDAY: It’s Transformational

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2

It is so tempting to copy the way popular people behave. We want to dress the way they dress and act the way they act. We even copy their attitudes and morals. But the self-centered behaviors and attitudes we see around us aren’t how God created us to be. When we let Him direct our thoughts and shape our attitudes, He will transform us into new people. And this new person will be the man or woman, boy or girl that God intended for you to be. Look at a caterpillar that can only crawl along the ground. But when it changes into a butterfly, it can do what it never imagined before – it can fly!

For a caterpillar, this change occurs as it spends time in its cocoon. For us, it happens as we let God’s Word renew our minds and the Spirit of God re-form our hearts and attitudes. And as He transforms us, we can do what we couldn’t do before. And just one of those things is knowing His will for us and understanding how good and pleasing and perfect it really is.

So, even though it’s tempting to copy the way other people behave, remember that trusting and obeying God will transform you, and you will find yourself able to do what you couldn’t even imagine before.
