FRIDAY: THE STORM IS COMING

Matthew 7:24-29

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

When I listen to Jesus and practice what He says, then I have spiritual wisdom. No matter what storms come, I stay strong, because my foundation is built on the Rock, who is Jesus Christ.

There will be some who hear the words of Jesus, but do not listen. They follow their own blueprints in building their house. They are not wise, and do not look to the Lord for instruction. To them come destruction in the midst of the storm, and their house falls.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS

Both the wise and the foolish heard what Jesus said. The key for the wise was taking action in practicing their faith. Here are some ways I can practice doing what God says:

I select solid teachers. I can’t learn holy things if I don’t have a good teacher. I need to learn from someone who teaches the truth from God’s Word, and not their opinion or agenda.

I listen carefully to understand. I can only listen if I can hear and understand. When I don’t understand, I need to ask questions.

I prepare for the storm. I know the storm is coming. This world is getting worse, and I will be criticized for my faith. By knowing this, I can seek God and look to His Word to be ready.

I continue to practice. While I can’t be perfect on this earth, I can “practice for heaven,” where everything is perfect. Practicing my faith will create lifelong habits which will bless the Lord.

I celebrate God’s Word. I can rejoice in God’s goodness and thank God daily for what He has taught me.

Lord, thank You for the blessing of Your words, allowing me to hear, listen and understand how to build a foundation on solid ground. Amen.

May you be blessed,
