GOD IS LOVE

1 John 4:7-12

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,  and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. ThisBeloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.  In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.  In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.  Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.  No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.

John helps us to see love for Who it is:  God is love.  He also clarifies that love is from God, and as such, whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.  God’s love is perfected in us because God abides in us.

God is the originator of love and created us to love Him and to love one another.  Without love, I would not know God, and without His love, I wouldn’t know how to love.

Whoever has been born of God has the Holy Spirit inside their heart.  This new birth means that I am born again and now I know God.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS

Before I knew God, I did not know Him and I didn’t know what love was.  I learned that God loved us first, and through His love, gave me the faith to love Him.

If I ever want to know what love is, I only need to look to God.  Through God love exists, and God shows us His love through Jesus Christ. 

God doesn’t ever fall out of love with me.  His love always surrounds me and is in me, even when I allow the world to attempt to crowd it out.

When I find my heart crowded, God may seem distant but He is closer than ever.  I just need to allow Him to remove the other things that occupy my heart so that I can feel His love even more.

Lord, thank You for Your love.  I want to be blessed by Your love every moment of every day.
