MY PURPOSE (Wednesday)

Romans 12:4-8

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is contributing to the needs of others, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Once I can apply God’s filter to my thoughts, I will understand how He is working through my actions. Just as He is transforming my mind, He has already planted a foundation for my actions by instructing the Holy Spirit to give me a gift.

The gift I have been given is not ordinary; when I use it, I find that it comes naturally, and it harnesses extraordinary power. I also find that my gift is different than other people’s gifts around me. There is a reason for that—all of our gifts work together to form one body. The gift appears in each of us in a different manifestation of grace. The power of the gift comes from the Holy Spirit working through me to achieve God’s purpose and plans.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS: If I have the gift of prophecy, God will give me an amazing ability to hear from Him and praise His name. If I have the gift of serving, God will give me an intense desire to serve others, carrying their burden, so their load will be lighter, thus magnifying His grace. If I have the gift of teaching, I will be a student of God’s Word, so I can communicate His Truth clearly and care deeply about the understanding of my students. If I have the gift of encouragement, I will call others near to God’s righteousness through God’s message. If I have the gift of contributing to the needs of others, I will generously give my time and resources in an unselfish manner to help others in need. If I have the gift of leadership, I will show myself to be blameless, trustworthy, and righteous and communicate the message and direction of Christ clearly. If I have the gift of mercy, I will cheerfully lavish the love of God on others the way Christ loves me.

Each gift carries the overwhelming power of a specific grace of the Holy Spirit. Through using this gift, I allow God to work through me to achieve His holy purpose. If I use the gift only for myself, I quench the Spirit, and His power won’t be as evident. But when I use it to serve Him and others, I feel His power.

Lord, please show me today how You are using me to achieve Your purpose! Amen.

May you be blessed,
