OVERCOMING THE WORLD

1 John 5:1-5

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of Him.  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.  For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.  For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.  Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

The world is quite burdensome.  I keep fighting against it, and indeed there are some days it does bring me down.  However, I have discovered something quite remarkable:  Jesus Christ has overcome the world.

When I believe in Jesus, God sends me the Holy Spirit to live in my heart, declaring that I have been born again.  The Apostle John states that if I have been born of God, I have overcome the world.

To have overcome the world is to put off the burden which has been holding me down.  The burden is released when I rest in the Lord and obey His commandments.  His commandments are refreshing and powerful, and they have the power to lift me whenever I believe the burden has consumed me.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS

To believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God is the mightiest and most powerful blessing that my heart could ever entertain.  I see that Jesus has overcome the world, and with Him in me and me in Him, He has also allowed me to overcome the world also.

It is through my faith in Jesus that I can see what He desires to do in me; it is through my faith that I believe that He will guide my steps in everything He is about to do in my life.

Lord, may You allow me to keep obeying Your commandments and share Your love with all that You bring across my path.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
