REASSURE MY HEART

1 John 3:19-24

By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.

To reassure is to trust and have confidence; it is not of myself that I am confident, but of the Lord.  The world teaches me to trust in performance and to earn success; Jesus teaches me to trust in Him and be confident in the work that He has already done on the cross.  It is of His truth that I continue to abide, as He reassures me that He is in me.

Sometimes my heart may condemn me; during these times I find fault with myself.  But I know that God is greater than my heart, and He knows everything; indeed, He is the Truth.  It is during these times when I ask Him for the things the Holy Spirit produces in abundance: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).  And whatever I ask I receive form Him, because He desires my heart to be healed with His Divine mercy and love.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS

When I place my belief in the Lord Jesus Christ, He renews my heart and gives me an abundance and love and grace to share with others.  When I fall prey to the world, my heart sinks because I doubt that He will continue to give me these things I don’t deserve.  But He reassures my heart that He abides in me, and my heart awakens in rejoicing and praise!

May the Lord bless those who hear and believe His Word, as He has graciously given all of Himself to me, and only asks that I give all of myself to Him.

Lord, please bless me today with the reassurance and confidence that You are in me; reassure my heart with the presence of Your Holy Spirit and allow me to rejoice in You.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
