SING A NEW SONG (Monday)

Psalm 96:1-2, 6-10, 13 (see also 1 Chronicles 16:23-33)

Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.

Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.

Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth. Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.” The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.

Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness.

Did you ever just have one of those days? Maybe nothing is going right. Our prayers on these days might sound something like, “God, are You really in control?”

We are reminded in this psalm just how much God IS in control. We are told to sing to the Lord a new song. Singing a new song implies that there was an “old” song, and perhaps also a reason for changing our tune. The new song includes lyrics regarding His salvation, which we are to declare daily.

The song continues that we are to declare His glory among all nations and tell of His marvelous works among all the peoples. The psalm states that the Lord is great and greatly to be praised. Great in this context can be translated “the Greatest” …in fact there is no one greater. He has the ability to calm our hearts and set our focus on His plans for us, even in times of crisis.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS

We are reminded to tremble before Him because the Lord reigns! If He indeed is the Lord of our lives, we are to put our trust in Him and not in ourselves.

Remember the old song that we were singing before? That song was about me. It was about my problems, and how my life was out of control because I could not control it. The new song is about God, about His greatness and how much control He has over our hearts. I think perhaps some of us may sing the old song every once in a while. When we do, God will bring us back to our senses by reminding us that we are not in control and that we should allow Him to take the wheel of our lives.

Lord, I know that You are righteous and faithful. You are the ONLY Holy One who can guide us through our problems. Please guide me with strength and courage today to accept Your will in my life. Amen.

May you be blessed,
