DAY 24: THE WORD REVEALS THE FATHER: Grace and Truth Revealed
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. John 1:17–18
Throughout For generations, humanity longed to see God. Moses had spoken with Him face to face, yet even he was only allowed to glimpse God’s glory as it passed by. Throughout the Old Testament, God revealed Himself only in part: through the law, the prophets, and His mighty works, but never in full. Then came Jesus, and suddenly the unseen God was made visible.
John declares that grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. The law, given through Moses, was a gift: it taught God’s holiness and revealed our need for mercy but it could never change the human heart. In Jesus, God’s character stepped into human form, and what the law could not do, grace accomplished.
When Jesus walked among us, He showed us exactly what God is like. Every healing touch, every word of forgiveness, every act of compassion revealed the Father’s heart. He didn’t come to condemn but to restore; not to burden, but to free. Truth without grace can crush, but grace without truth can mislead. In Christ, both find perfect balance: truth that purifies, and grace that redeems.
To look at Jesus is to behold the very nature of God: full of mercy, steadfast love, and unchanging righteousness. No one else could bridge the gap between heaven and earth. Through Him, the invisible became knowable, and the Almighty became approachable.
At Christmas, we celebrate not just the birth of a child, but the unveiling of God’s heart. The baby in the manger was the clearest revelation of divine love the world has ever seen.
To know Jesus is to know the Father. When we receive His grace and walk in His truth, we reflect the very nature of God to a world still longing to see Him.
Reflect:
What does Jesus’ life teach me about the character of God?
How can I show both grace and truth in my relationships this Christmas?
Lord, thank You for revealing Yourself through Your Son, Jesus Christ. In Him, I see Your mercy, wisdom, and love. Help me to walk in His grace and truth, and to make Your heart known to others through the way I live and love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
