THINGS THE LORD HATES: A False Witness Who Pours Out Lies (Monday)

Proverbs 6:16-19 (Day 6 of 7)
There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
A truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is deceitful. Proverbs 14:25
A false witness will perish, but a careful listener will testify successfully. Proverbs 21:28
We have reviewed how the eyes, tongue, hands, heart, and feet can lead us into sin; today we are looking at our witness. Nothing is under more scrutiny than our witness to others.
All eyes look upon a witness, including your children, your spouse, your parents, your siblings, your friends, and your extended family. Do you know who is looking at you most closely? Those who have not accepted Jesus as their Savior. They are very curious about how a person who has a relationship with Jesus will act and behave.
A false witness is therefore not just one who lies, but one who deceives. The term “hypocrite” literally means “actor,” or one who acts differently in one situation than in another. I may think I’m deceiving others if I act in a certain fashion, but I’m only actually deceiving myself.
THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS
I examine my life today and ask the Lord to forgive me for all the times I have been deceitful, including all the times I have acted thoughtlessly toward the Lord.
Instead of acting deceptively in my witness, the Lord desires all my actions and motives to be true to Him. Today I repent of my hypocrisy and ask Him to make my witness strong by putting Him first in my life.
Lord, please help me be a good witness for You to others. Amen.
May you be blessed,
