THINGS THE LORD HATES: Feet that are Quick to Rush into Evil (Friday)

Proverbs 6:16-19 (Day 5 of 7)

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

My son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths; for their feet rush into evil, they are swift to shed blood. Proverbs 1:16-17

Their feet rush into sin, they are swift to shed innocent blood. They pursue evil schemes; acts of violence mark their ways. Isaiah 59:7

Rushing can lead to sin. When I think about it, rushing gets me into all kinds of trouble. Rushing into a decision without praying about it first is not in my best interest. Driving too fast to get somewhere more quickly is hazardous and dangerous. Running through a crowd, so I can get somewhere faster than others in the crowd can create chaos.

All my rushing is not helping me, and my rushing may be hurting others. I need to slow down. I need to relax. I need to stop and breathe and ask God what He wants me to do instead of rushing.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS

I’ll be surprised at His answer. I examine my life today and ask myself why I am in such a hurry. I also ask the Lord to forgive me for hurting Him because I am usually rushing without talking to Him. Then I am not walking with Him but trying to do things in my own strength.

Instead of rushing into things, the Lord desires for me to slow down and be still before Him, allowing Him to guide my thoughts and my actions. Instead of having an ulterior motive, He wants to be the motive and the motivation for everything I do.

Lord, please help me to stop rushing into things and focus on You. Your timing is always perfect in my life. Amen.
