THURSDAY: GOD’S STORY IN MY LIFE

Lord, I know You are continually working in my life, although I don’t always remember to keep thanking You. Today, I want to remember. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Deuteronomy 11:2-7

Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the Lord your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm; the signs he performed and the things he did in the heart of Egypt, both to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his whole country; what he did to the Egyptian army, to its horses and chariots, how he overwhelmed them with the waters of the Red Sea as they were pursuing you, and how the Lord brought lasting ruin on them. It was not your children who saw what he did for you in the wilderness until you arrived at this place, and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth right in the middle of all Israel and swallowed them up with their households, their tents and every living thing that belonged to them. But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the Lord has done.

I’m very forgetful. Sometimes I forget how God worked in my life yesterday. What He did yesterday is why I’m where I’m at today. I must remember that! What I don’t always realize is what He is doing in my life today will prepare me for tomorrow.

The Israelites had been through many trials. They experienced oppression as slaves in Egypt, and God delivered them. They experienced fear as Pharaoh chased them, but God parted the Red Sea for them and drowned Pharaoh’s army.

The story of Dathan and Abiram is found in Numbers 16. These two men lacked recollection and respect. They forgot their oppression in Egypt, calling it a “land of milk and honey.” They also did not respect Moses, God’s chosen leader, because they didn’t see the “land of milk and honey” to which they were being led. If I reject God’s chosen leader, I also reject God.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS: I see clearly today, but I also need to see and remember all the great things the Lord has done in my life. If I forget those, then I have forgotten God’s story which He has given me.

I can remember God’s story if I’m sharing it with others, though. If I continually tell others how I have been delivered, then I remind myself of God’s faithfulness. I no longer conceal God’s story from myself, simply because I am continually speaking it. God’s story in my life has the power to show others Christ. My suffering has a purpose, and my deliverance has a purpose. My hope in eternal life also has a purpose because God is not done with me yet. Lord, please help me continue to repeat Your story of my deliverance to others, so You can lead them to deliverance in You also!

May you be blessed,
