THURSDAY: REMEMBER TO LOOK UP

Psalm 42:8-11

The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me—a prayer to the God of my life.

I will say to God my Rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?” As with a breaking of my bones, my enemies reproach me, While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”

Why are you cast down, O my soul? and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.

When I am down, I need to hope in God. I look for Him, but I don’t see Him. As much as I look, He is not where I am looking.

Then I remember to look up, as He taught me to do. The Lord commands His lovingkindness to come and share His song with me. His song becomes a prayer to the God of my life.

I may say, “Why have You forgotten me?” I am in mourning because the enemy oppresses me. My enemy taunts me, saying, “Where is your God?”

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS

The Lord has not forgotten me, and the taunting is directed against Him, not me. This life is not about me…I need to remember that. Whenever I am cast down, I need to look up. The Lord has already saved me and redeemed my life. Why am I crying?

I’m crying because my pride is hurt. I am broken because my will hasn’t been done. Then I remember that the Lord is in control. Through Him, all things work together for the good of those that love Him.

Then I get down on my knees and mourn. I mourn because I sin against Him. Then I repent, and in the midst of my anguish I praise Him.

Praising Him has a profound effect on my heart and spirit. Praising Him lifts me up, so I look up at Him. Praising Him inspires me to hope in Him.

Lord, may Your countenance refresh me today as I look up to You. I put my hope in You, and all that You are about to do in my life. Amen.
