TUESDAY: LIGHT-IGNITING GRACE

Lord, please help me understand Your message of grace and how it ignites the light of Christ in my heart.

1 Peter 1:10-12

Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

When I think of the prophets (who carried God’s message) telling of God’s grace, it gives me chills. They were like surgeons, who searched intently in the depths of their hearts with the greatest care for the time and circumstances that the Savior would come. They were also looking for the light of the Spirit of Christ in them to guide them. That Light points to the sufferings of Christ, detailing what He went through for my sin and redemption, just so I could live with Him forever. Once that Light is revealed, there will be many glories that will follow.

Light reveals things hidden in the darkness. It reveals that I am in the habit of serving myself, but now I am called to serve Christ. The Light (Jesus) prepared the way for the Holy Spirit to work in my life, illuminating the truth of the gospel, as well as other truths revealed to me by God’s messengers.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS: Grace is impossible to understand without the light of Christ. I also find that I take grace for granted if it is not constantly explained by the gospel. Think about it: I was a sinner, a nobody destined for the deepest, darkest, gloomiest eternal future imaginable. I had NO hope; I was in fact, hopeless.

The God of all creation recognized my plight and decided He would do something about my situation. He sent His Son to prepare the way for me to go to heaven, where I will have a glorious future living with Him. But that’s not all—He also desired for me to begin living that promise now, so He put a deposit in me, guaranteeing my trip.

That Deposit is the Holy Spirit, who lives and guides me in my daily life. The Spirit also reminds me of the gospel of Christ, which illuminates God’s grace in my heart. Lord, thank You for teaching me about Your grace and for how the gospel has transformed my heart. I need Your grace every day; thank You for this free gift.

May you be blessed,
