WALKING WITHOUT FEAR

Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I will never be shaken. How long will you assault me? Would all of you throw me down—this leaning wall, this tottering fence? Surely, they intend to topple me from my lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse. Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge.    Psalm 62:1-7

I search for rest in many places, yet too often I find myself leaning against walls that cannot hold, or tottering fences that are ready to fall.  The truth is there is only one sure resting place: my soul finds rest in God alone and my hope comes from Him.  The reason I am looking for rest is because I am running because I am afraid. What would life look like if I chose to stop running?  I can surrender my fear when I realize:

He is my Rock:Through His strength, I will no longer be afraid.

He is my Salvation:Because He has saved me, He will guide me along life’s journey.

He is my Fortress: Because He lives in me, He will protect me from the things I fear.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS

As long as I live in fear, I will remain unsettled and vulnerable.  But when I remember the One who has overcome the world (1 John 4:4) is watching over me, I will surrender my fear to Him and step out in faith onto the path of the righteous.

I don’t need to grieve over what fear may have stolen from me; instead, I rejoice that I will be blessed wherever God leads me.  The blessing is not only in the destination (heaven), but also in the journey itself. The blessing comes by knowing I’m doing life with Jesus and for God, and through faith His Holy Spirit dwells in me.

I can’t imagine life without Jesus.  That thought alone drives me to release fear into His hands.  I surrender my fear to Jesus because He surrendered His life for me.  He walked knowingly into suffering for my sake; I can trust Him to lead me through the unknown.

Lord, thank you for being with me.  Help me to see that You have already prepared me for what I fear today.  Teach me to rest in You, to walk by faith, and to trust that no fear can topple me when I stand upon You.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
