WEDNESDAY: GOD’S DWELLING PLACE

Psalm 26:8-12

Lord, I love the house where you live, the place where your glory dwells.

Do not take away my soul along with sinners, my life with those who are bloodthirsty,

in whose hands are wicked schemes, whose right hands are full of bribes.

I lead a blameless life; deliver me and be merciful to me.

My feet stand on level ground; in the great congregation I will praise the Lord.

There is a place where God lives. If God picks out a home, I know it is a place I will love, because God’s glory dwells there.

God has chosen a home in the temple of my heart. Therefore, the glory of God dwells in my heart.

God knows I am a sinner. Yet, since He has justified me as righteous and blameless because of His love and mercy, He dwells in my heart.

Whenever there are rough seas, my feet stand on level ground, for God is with me. Because God is with me, I will praise Him.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS

Matthew 25 talks about God gathering the sheep on His right and the goats on His left. Proverbs 6:17-18 talks about hands that shed innocent blood and a heart that devises wicked plans. God makes a distinction between those who will join Him in heaven and those who won’t. This distinction is the mark of the new covenant: the presence of the Holy Spirit in my heart.

Without the Holy Spirit, I cannot live a blameless life. Without Him, I can’t even praise the Lord. However, with Him, God is changing me to think and act more like Jesus by choosing His will over my own. Once the Holy Spirit enters my heart, He will never leave. The entrance of the Holy Spirit into my life is based on a choice that God made. God pursued me and asked me to follow Him. When I consented, He gave me the Holy Spirit, as a deposit guaranteeing my eternal life (2 Cor. 1:22, 5:5, Ephesians 1:14).

Lord, I love the house where You live. Thank you for choosing my heart as a dwelling place for Your glory. Amen.

May you be blessed,
