WHAT AM I WAITING FOR?

Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed (1 Corinthians 1:7).

Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes.  He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart.  At that time each will receive their praise from God (1 Corinthians 4:5).

They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath (1 Thessalonians 1:9-10).

It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good (Titus 2:12-14).

I have everything I need to wait on the Lord.  He says I don’t lack any spiritual gift as I wait for Him.  Actually, Paul was talking to the church in Corinth, with the message being if I am joined to a body of believers, that body has the ability to wait together for the Lord, and they don’t lack anything in doing so.

I might tend to get ahead of the Lord and start judging things for myself.  This is not what He wants me to do.  If I wait on Him, He will bring to light what was hidden in the darkness of the crevices of my heart, and He will expose my true motives.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS

While I’m waiting, I’m serving God.  I’m actually serving Him by waiting.  The point is that if I’m not waiting on God, I’m getting ahead of Him, and that’s not a place that I want to be.  If I’m ahead of God, I’m not following Him.

If I’m waiting, that doesn’t mean that God is not at work.  He is constantly at work all around me.  However, just like I might put down a hammer to pick up a saw, the Lord lays me down to rest so that He can use another “tool” to accomplish His greater purpose.

There is purpose in my time of rest.  I can be refreshed.  My heart can be cleansed.  However, I tend to fill my heart with anxiety while I’m waiting, so that I don’t feel His refreshing and cleansing.  It’s time to let the anxiety go so that I can accomplish His true purpose in waiting.

Lord, I’ve been waiting for a long time, but now I see that you are doing incredible things in my heart during this time.  Thank You, Lord!  I am blessed because I’m waiting for You.  Amen!
