THINGS THE LORD HATES: Hands that Shed Innocent Blood (Wednesday)

Proverbs 6:16-19 (Day 3 of 7)

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

But your eyes and heart are set only on dishonest gain, on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and extortion. Jeremiah 22:17

“I have sinned,” he (Judas) said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they (the Pharisees) replied. “That’s your responsibility.” Matthew 27:4

We have talked about how the eyes and tongue do things that the Lord hates; today the lesson is about the hands. Our hands can do some pretty awful things, but the Lord hates when we look for someone to “throw under the bus.”

Who is going to be the scapegoat for my actions? Adam blamed the Lord for giving him Eve instead of owning up to his own sin. Eve blamed the serpent. Who is to blame for my sin? I am to blame for my sin.

Even Judas realized his sin led to betraying the innocent blood of Jesus. I realize my sin also hurts Jesus.

THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS

I examine my life today and ask the Lord to forgive me for hurting innocent people. Every time I cast blame on someone else for my own sin and my own shortcomings, I sin against the Lord.

Instead of casting blame, the Lord desires for me to be responsible for my sin and come to Him with a repentant heart. He also desires for me to forgive when someone asks for forgiveness for their sin against me.

Lord, please create in me a pure heart that is repentant and forgiving. Amen.
