Proverbs 6:16-19 (Day 1 of 7)
There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
Whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, I will not tolerate. Proverbs 6:17
Haughty eyes and a proud heart—the unplowed field of the wicked—produce sin. Proverbs 21:4
Solomon certainly had a lot to say about haughty eyes. Haughty means arrogantly raised, uplifted, or exalted. The Bible says that only the Lord should be exalted…so, is it wrong for me want to get ahead?
The problem is HOW I want to get ahead. When I have eyes that are haughty, it means I arrogantly look toward the future…without God. God wants to do things with me, and I tend to want to get ahead of Him and depend on myself.
Solomon stated that the Lord HATES haughty eyes, and now I see why. The Lord created me to be with Him, and when my eyes are haughty, I am thinking about myself and doing life without Him.
THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS
I examine my life today and ask the Lord to forgive me for having haughty eyes. Haughty eyes originate from the sin of pride in my heart, which is the root sin designed to separate me from God.
Instead of having haughty eyes, the Lord desires a humble heart, which produces humble eyes! Today I look to the Lord with humble eyes and ask for His will to be done in my heart, which helps me to see the things He wants to do with me.
Lord, help me look to You with a humble heart today! Amen.
May you be blessed,
